Tea Additions
Home : Articles : Tea Additions

The main additions to tea are milk, honey, sugar and lemon.

Out of all the most popular additions to tea, milk is the strongest favourite. Semi-skimmed or low-fat milk seems to work best as a full bodied milk can be too creamy for many. Cream is also quite a heavy supplement for tea and is used much less than ordinary semi-skimmed milk.

Honey or lemon with milk is not recommended, especially the combination of milk and lemon. The contrast of the milk and acidic lemon instantly curdles the milk, making quite possibly the worst brew you'll ever have!

Lemon is always a favourite addition to tea, giving it a fresher, younger taste. It is usually added to tea to make Iced Tea drinks in the summer months, a drink which originated in America. This combination is suitable for giving out at garden parties or for sipping on a summer evening.

Sugar is a great sweetener and appeals to younger drinkers, who then continue in the habit for much of their lives. It is not necessary to add sugar, but it does make tea a little more lively especially if you take it black (without any additions).

Please read our article on Milk for more information on the argument to add milk before or after the tea. You might also be interested in some gourmet Irish chocolates and truffles from Chocablock.com along with your tea.
